Foundation Review - Nars Sheer Glow

I wanted to start off reviewing one of my favourite foundations that I've been using for quite a while now. I always have Nars Sheer Glow stocked in both my professional kit and in my personal makeup collection. I know how it works, how it feels and what it looks like. Let me share with you some of my tips and tricks for applying this tried and tested foundation.

Preparing the skin

I like to use a gentle chemical exfoliant to help buff away dead skin cells and leave the skin feeling nice and smooth. I then apply any serums and a light moisturiser before stopping to make myself a quick coffee (and give the serums/moisturises 5 or 10 minutes to sink in!). Always make sure you cleanse and moisturise before you do anything else. Promise me!

Primer

The best primer is one that is designed for your skin type. If you need extra moisture use an oil based one. I have combination/oily skin so I prefer an oil free version. My favourite by far is the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer. It has SPF15, reduces the look of pores and smooths the skin to a beautiful silky texture. This primer repels water (test it out on the back of your hand with a splash of water and you will see!) I find this helps to keep your foundation on longer and also helps you to use less product on your skin (bonus!)

Applying

When I first started using Nars Sheer Glow foundation I used to apply with a kabuki foundation brush (which gave a nice flawless finish) however in the last few months I have

changed my method. Nars recommends warming the foundation in your hands first and then spreading onto the face. I really like this technique. The foundation seems to glide really smoothly on the face with little to no marks which you would normally get with many brushes. I then use a damp beauty blender to apply a second layer where needed (usually around the middle of the face where I get the most red). Mix a little illuminator with the foundation to give a beautiful extra glow to the face.

Finishing

Apply concealer where needed and then set the foundation with a little powder and a good setting spray. I love the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. It really sets your foundation and helps it to last all night!

What it looks like

I find the coverage to be light to medium with a slightly dewy finish. It it long lasting and doesn't cake (unless you use too much product on the skin). For a more dewy finish mix with an illuminator or face oil. For dry skin types this foundation can be too matte so I would suggest going with a more hydrating foundation. The only way to be sure is to try a sample first with a range of primers/moisturisers to see how it sits on your skin.
